The Hong Kong Q-ESG Certification Scheme

Over the past 30 years, environmental, social and governance (ESG) reports have been compiled by fewer than 20 listed companies worldwide. These reports have now become a benchmark for investors, consumers, and regulatory bodies to assess corporate status. According to the research report "2023 Hong Kong ESG Assurance Update: An Evolving Field" published by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants in November 2023, Hong Kong's large companies have responded relatively quickly to the rapidly changing ESG environment and have conducted ESG assurance. In addition, the European Union has formulated the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, which requires companies to certify their sustainability reports starting from 2024.

Reliable, transparent, and unbiased ESG reporting is increasingly important in business and investment, as reflected in the steps being taken to accelerate the spread of sustainability assurance.

Hong Kong Q-Mark Council responds to the current situation of ESG assurance in Hong Kong, and as society’s awareness of ESG increases, companies’ demand for ESG reports increases. Therefore, it is more necessary to establish an accurate and clear data collection and management system, and through some form of independent assurance to verify the reliability and completeness of this information. To support this need, the Q-ESG certification scheme was launched at the end of 2024. Provide a step-by-step approach to enhance enterprises' capabilities in handling ESG audits and promoting best practices in ESG management.
